On the very first day of hiking, the Daun maars - the Gemünden, Weinfeld and Schalkenmehren maars - line up one after the other like deep blue pearls. From the Dronketurm, situated between the Gemünden and Weinfeld maars, there is a magnificent view over all three maars. If you like, you can cool off a little after a day's hiking with a dip in the Schalkenmehren maar.

• Hike on the Eifelsteig stage 11 | approx. 17 km

Off to the oldest maar in the Volcanic Eifel: the trail first follows the Eifelsteig premium hiking trail to the Eckfelder Maar. The skeleton of the "Eifel primeval horse" is one of the impressive discoveries made in this dry maar. It was only around 50 cm tall and lived in these latitudes around 45 million years ago.

• Hike on the Vulkamaar trail | approx. 12.5 km

Step by step, we continue along the VulkaMaar trail. As on the first two days of the hike, water also plays a role on the third day. However, the Windsborn Crater Lake is not a maar, but also a volcanic phenomenon: it is the only crater lake north of the Alps. The hiking tour ends at the Meerfelder Maar.
