Our unique event begins and ends directly below the castle ruins of Schönecken on the pasture of the eifelnomaden. After an entertaining introduction in which you get to know the llamas and learn how to lead such an animal, we set off on our hike together with our knowledgeable guide.
Our hiking route takes us right into the heart of the Schönecker Schweiz nature reserve. Juniper and spruce, hazel, rowan and broom grow here. Prickly sloes and gnarled apple trees stand in the natural meadows, moss and ivy entwine old oak trees: All plants whose aromas can be found in the Eifel gin. You will learn about the habitat and diverse uses of our native flora in a fun and entertaining way.
After crossing the Altburg Valley, we climb the southern slopes of the valley, where the slender juniper with its dark green, prickly leaves and deep blue berries sets the tone. We continue onto the Op Ischt plateau. Here, on dry ground, mighty spruce and larch trees stretch their bizarrely twisted branches towards the sky.
A little later, we enter a beech forest. Moss grows on the shaded sides of the smooth beech trunks. Some trees are entwined with many-leaved ivy. We take a break in a small clearing and enjoy the peace and quiet surrounded by nature.
We pass a clearing where, in addition to hazel, countless gorse trees have also settled, and head back towards the pasture. With a bit of luck, we may find one or two of the dark blue shimmering berries on the sloes along the way or an apple in one of the orchards.
On our return, a cheerful fire is already flickering in the fire bowls in front of our open stable. Stephan Thomé, the owner and master distiller of the small Euelsberger distillery, awaits us here with his delicious Eifel gin.
The fire in our fire bowls spreads a cozy warmth while Stephan introduces us to his excellent gin. Enjoy the typical Eifel aromas of the gin and fortify yourselves with some home-grilled stick bread. Maybe you've already grilled stick bread together as children? If not, we'll show you how it's done!
There will also be regional apple juice and a non-alcoholic, home-made punch. Around us, the llamas feed on their well-earned hay, perhaps humming and buzzing a little.
If the weather doesn't quite play ball, we'll put the fire bowls under our canopy and you can wrap up in our warm blankets.
