Our llamas graze directly below Schönecken Castle on a tax orchard. There we get to know the animals in a relaxed manner and learn how to lead the patient and curious animals. Then our hiking adventure begins in the "Schönecker Schweiz" nature reserve!
Right at the beginning, we hike down into the valley of the Altburgbach stream. Orchard meadows and the slender silhouettes of juniper bushes accompany us. We follow the Altburgbach stream, whose bed winds its way through the forest in countless bends. After a while, we discover a towering rock hidden between the mighty beech trunks: an ancient refuge castle is enthroned on it.
A steep climb awaits us here: a narrow path winds its way up the slope to the top of the rocky outcrop. Many centuries ago, Celts hid in the refuge when it became too dangerous out on the open plains. We rest here for a while. If you like, you can explore the rocks. We are sure to have plenty of time to take photos with the llamas.
A little later, we reach the "Op Ischt" plateau and enjoy the sweeping view across to the High Fens. From spring onwards, rare, protected plant species such as orchids grow on the slopes of the plateau. A final highlight of our hike is the ruins of Schönecken Castle, built in the 13th century and recently restored.
Back at the pasture, we have to say goodbye to our faithful companions, the llamas.
