Hillesheim
When boss and employee are both beaming and convinced that they can achieve the best together, it must be a jackpot in the lottery of working life. For Jürgen Bahn from Cologne, a dream came true at the certified EIFEL employer Schmitz Haustechnik in Hillesheim-Bolsdorf - and vice versa.
At Schmitz Haustechnik, as the name suggests, everything revolves around hard facts: Smart homes, resource-saving heating systems, electrics and electronics for private and commercial properties, renewable energies... And yet Rainer Schmitz, the young business owner, uses soft factors to attract qualified people for the jobs he has to offer thanks to a stable, good order situation: "Working where others go on vacation". This is no coincidence, as this is exactly how master electrician Jürgen Bahn found his dream job two years ago. "It was love at first sight, so to speak. I was on vacation in the Eifel with my wife, we saw the job advertisement by chance and then everything happened very quickly." Bahn and Schmitz found each other without any complications. The cheerful man from Cologne and the down-to-earth man from the Eifel knew immediately: "The human factor was right," confirms the employer, "and professionally, it was exactly what we were both looking for."
Bahn had long wanted to swap his previous working life in a city of millions for something that offered more freedom in every respect: "I no longer wanted the daily traffic jams, the stress, the parking problems, the hectic pace," he recalls. Instead, he lives around the corner from his workplace during the week and enjoys being able to apply all his creativity and expertise to his job thanks to the variety of tasks. "That's why I became a craftsman!" He gets on well with the Eifel people. "I don't always understand the dialect, but the warmth. Everyone knows everyone here, the solidarity is palpable."
Cohesion is also a very important keyword for Rainer Schmitz. "Being part of the EIFEL employer brand is very important for us when it comes to supporting our employees. It not only allows us to offer a good job to those who work for us. Within the network, we can also make it much easier for partners and family members to enter the Eifel." Where are there qualified and attractive jobs for partners, where is there a daycare center or school for the children, where are there affordable building plots or houses to buy or rent? "We work with people, not just with business figures. So we take a holistic view," says Rainer Schmitz.
Jürgen Bahn is still the vanguard of his family in the Eifel. But that should and will change. "We want to move the entire center of our lives here. My wife is just as much an Eifel fan as I am." His daughter, who is moving out into the world to study, will also feel that there is no shortage of action. "There's nothing missing here." Bahn has the feeling that he has set the right course. The fact that the Schmitz Haustechnik team includes another employee from Cologne and another from Hamburg reinforces his decision: "I can only recommend anyone to come here and take a chance on living and working in the Eifel. It's simply a great experience!"
