Bessarabian Germans on the Maifeld, lecture (repetition)
Bessarabian Germans on the Maifeld
From 1814 to 1940, Germans lived in Bessarabia and mainly farmed there.
They were invited to southern Russia by recruiters from the Russian crown and granted privileges.
There were around 9,000 of them. After 126 years, their number had increased tenfold to around 93,000.
Numerous events and reasons led to these ethnic Germans leaving Bessarabia again
in 1940. Many of them found their new home on the Maifeld.
Their names will be part of the presentation.
The illustrated talk with music describes the history of these Bessarabian Germans from their emigration
to the present day.
