BLUFF IS ALREADY PART OF OUR FUTURE – announced none other than Nils Landgren just under two years ago. At that point, the Hamburg quartet had already established itself as a fixture in its North German milieu. The music of its band members was strongly influenced by sources from all over the world, and so BLUFF created an unmistakable sound ranging from Jarrett-like rubato ballads to agile, dynamic power pieces in the style of Wilkins and Aldana. The four musicians know each other like the backs of their hands and form a trusting, synergistic band unit. Over the past five years, BLUFF has toured extensively throughout Germany, including appearances at the renowned ELBJAZZ and JazzBaltica festivals, as well as performances in Austria and Switzerland. Since the release of their debut album ‘Sleight of Hand’ on BERTHOLD Records early last year, the quartet has been working diligently on new repertoire, refining their skills and cultivating the playfulness of their music. The compositions are melodic and contoured, inviting the band to move through intricate forms as if on ice skates – challenging and yet all the more exciting. The result is a dynamic, sophisticated earworm.
