Mr. Gerber is an old grump, blessed with great wit and jagged charm. Unfortunately, dementia has him in its grip. As a result, he necessarily but unwillingly lives in a nursing home. And he has one big wish: He wants to go home. He is closely and temperamentally connected to his daughter Hanne. But Hanne must learn to navigate the abrupt shifts between moments of clarity and phases of lostness in time and space.
Although it’s just the two of them, the two actors conjure a colorful array of characters from the hat: the teenage grandson, quirky residents of the home, and care staff appear. Thus, a performance is created that is both heart-wrenchingly sad and light as a feather at the same time.
