In 1943 Berlin, Emma's situation seems hopeless: her husband, a high-ranking SS officer, never misses an opportunity to demonstrate his power and control over her. At the same time, not only does she have to stand idly by and watch innocent people being persecuted and arrested, but her eleven-year-old son also becomes enthusiastic about his father's ideology and slips away from her more and more. Her resistance has been growing for years. An unexpected encounter with Johann, a charismatic work colleague of her husband, changes everything. When Johann suddenly disappears after a wave of arrests, the argument between Emma and her husband escalates. She has to flee and leave her son behind. Emma joins a resistance group. Torn between the fight against the National Socialist regime and her son, she ultimately has to make a difficult decision.
