Kinopalast Wittlich
A reading by the Altstadt Buchhandlung Wittlich bookshop at the Kinopalast Eifel Mosel Hunsrück cinema, Brautweg 3 in Wittlich
On 18 November 2025, at the Kinopalast Eifel Mosel Hunsrück cinema, Brautweg 3, in Wittlich, author Kai Meyer will present his novel ‘Das Antiquariat am alten Friedhof’ (The Antiquarian Bookshop at the Old Cemetery).
Leipzig, the city of books, 1930: In the midst of turbulent times, four young men gather in an antiquarian bookshop in the Graphisches Viertel district. Instead of pursuing their studies, Felix, Vadim, Julius and Eddie found the ‘Club Casaubon’. Driven by their passion for literature and their thirst for adventure, they become book thieves, specialising in precious, occult volumes. But when Eddie's enigmatic sister Eva joins the club, they are drawn deeper and deeper into the plans of ruthless forces. Fifteen years later, in 1945: After the war, Felix works as a librarian for the Americans, cataloguing millions of stolen books. His mission takes him back to the destroyed city of Leipzig. His friends from back then are missing – or unrecognisable. And is Eva really dead? As the city comes under pressure from the approaching Soviet occupation, Felix becomes entangled in a web of betrayal and deadly secrets that has its origins in the darkest corners of his past.
SPIEGEL bestselling author Kai Meyer once again tells a story of friendship, love and dark crimes in the fog-shrouded alleys of the Graphic Quarter.
