Route hike with national park rangers and geology experts along the Urftsee lake from Gemünd to Vogelsang. Discover with us the emerging forest wilderness and the traces of a sea that stretched out here around 400 million years ago.

Rocks from the Lower Devonian period accompany us on this hike. 400 million years ago, these "rocks" were sandy and clayey deposits from a shallow, warm sea. These were sunk to a depth of many kilometers, transformed into solid rock and later folded. Today they lie on the earth's surface again due to uplift processes. Fossilized wave ripples still show the mudflat character of these deposits.
The highlight of the hike is the rock face opposite the Vogelsang building complex, which was exposed during artillery exercises by Belgian soldiers.
Spectacular folds in the rock clearly show the dynamics of an ancient mountain formation. The way back is via the Victor Neels Bridge to Vogelsang Castle.

The route is suitable for baby carriages.

The approximately 8 km hike runs along the picturesque Urftsee lake and passes spectacular rocks that provide an excellent insight into the geology of the Eifel National Park.

The return journey can be made from the Vogelsang IP with the SB 82 National Park Shuttle to Gemünd. Participating guests are responsible for their own transportation costs.

Weatherproof clothing, sturdy footwear and rucksack provisions are recommended. There are refreshment stops at the starting and finishing points. Participation is at your own risk. No liability is accepted for damage.
