England, 1536: Henry VIII reigns as king and, following a dispute with the Pope, as self-proclaimed head of the Catholic Church in his country. In a village in England, an uneducated young woman named Mags claims to have seen a “lady in blue” by the lake. While the poor villagers react with reactions ranging from complete incomprehension to credulity, it could be a welcome opportunity for the brothers of the nearby monastery to declare the village a place of pilgrimage and thus avert the impending closure of the monastery.
After “May 1849 – The Prüm Armory Storm” (2009), “Broken Chains” (2012), and “The Wind on the Heath” (2016), “The Apparition” is the fourth major musical penned by English-born Christopher Meux.
