In August, the juniper heath is in full bloom – an impressive natural spectacle that visitors can experience up close during two guided hikes on Sunday, August 17, 2025, and Sunday, August 24, 2025, each at 2:00 PM.
The meeting point is the Rassberg hiking parking lot. From there, a circular path of about 3.5 kilometers with approximately 100 meters of elevation leads through the area around Rassberg and the Dr.-Heinrich-Menke-Park. The tour lasts about 2.5 hours and offers numerous insights into the unique landscape of the heath.
At the center are the formation, preservation, and restoration of the juniper and dwarf shrub heaths as well as the boreal grasslands. The expert guide introduces typical plant and animal species of these increasingly rare habitats and explains what care measures are necessary for their long-term preservation.
