Ausstellung: "Walter Ophey: Die Düsseldorfer Malerschule um 1900"
Kunstkabinett der Dr. Axe-Stiftung
The current exhibition in the Kunstkabinett of the Dr. Axe Foundation is dedicated to the Düsseldorf painter and graphic artist Walter Ophey (1882-1930). As a member of various artist and exhibition groups, Ophey was part of an extensive network of artists, collectors and patrons.
In the Kronenburg exhibition, around 40 works by Walter Ophey will be presented for the first time together with works by his artist friends, including Theo Champion, Max Clarenbach, August Deusser, Josef Kohlschein the Younger and Wilhelm Schmurr. They were all in search of an individual pictorial language on the path to modernism. Almost all of the paintings are part of the Dr. Axe Foundation's holdings and complete the collection, which focuses on the late Düsseldorf School of painting.
