Archäologietour Nordeifel 2025: Verborgenes entdecken

Dorfplatz Wollenberg

10/5/25
10:00 AM

Archaeology and Monument Preservation in the Northern Eifel. Experts will provide information on this day at six selected archaeological and architectural monuments of the Northern Eifel about the unique aspects of the sites.

In studying the map, one encounters the field name “Altenberg” west of Wollenberg – a hint at an old castle complex! The remains of this medieval section fortification lie on a narrow ridge between two streams: On three sides, the steep slopes of the mountain spur provided natural protection, while the access from the northeast was cut off by a deep ditch.

Program: Guided tours to the castle ruins – Archaeologists explain the site. Presentation of medieval finds. 3D model of the site.

For children: medieval children’s games

Catering: The Eifelverein Reifferscheid offers filled rolls, gray bread with liver and blood sausage, yeast cake, and cinnamon wreath, as well as cold and hot drinks.

Please note: Access to the steep castle hill is not permitted as part of the event.
