Weiertor
Archaeology and Monument Preservation in the Northern Eifel. Experts will provide information on this day at six selected archaeological and architectural monuments of the Northern Eifel about the unique aspects of the sites.
The medieval city walls of Zülpich date back to the 13th century and are almost completely preserved. The Weiertor suffered significant damage during World War II. After partial reconstructions in 1974, the main tower of this double gate system was rebuilt last year. Here, the Hovener young carnivalists now reside and open the gate for the guests of the archaeology tour.
Program: ongoing guided tours of the outer wall and inside the Weiertor. 11:30, 14:00, 15:30: free “Quickie” tours of Weiertor, Markt, Mühlenberg with explanations of the excavations from recent years
