Wanderung "Sanfte Hochflächen und tiefe Täler" - Erlebnisprogramm
Jun 25, 2023
The circular route follows the main hiking trail No. 4 of the Eifelverein at the beginning. Via the Laypfädchen we hike down into the Kyll valley. At the Good Friday cross we have a very beautiful, wide view to the surrounding villages. The path leads us further along abandoned quarries, where the red sandstone, typical for our area, was quarried. We reach the Laymühle in the area where the Kallenbach flows into the Kyll.
From Philippsheim we follow the route of the "Binsfelder Bähnchen." The "Binsfelder Bähnchen" was a narrow-gauge railroad that ran between Philippsheim station and Binsfeld from 1900 to 1965. It transported clay and brick products from the clay fields in the area of Binsfeld and Herforst to Philippsheim, where they were loaded onto the trains of the Eifelbahn Trier - Cologne. After the narrow-gauge railroad ceased operation, the route was converted into a cycle path. Initially through the narrow Kallenbach valley, the path gradually climbs again and at the level of the former Dudeldorf stop, near the confluence of the Langebach, the valley widens somewhat. At the end of this valley hollow we leave the Bähnchentraße and we walk on the opposite side of the valley past the Kreuzkapelle back to Speicher.
Afterwards, we will finish our hike with a meal together at the inn "Zum grünen Baum".
