The guided hike focuses on the Pulvermaar and the "Strohner Määrchen". While the Pulvermaar is the deepest and steepest "eye of the Eifel", the former maar lake near Strohn is now silted up and thus offers a nice comparison of what the Pulvermaar will possibly look like in many thousands of years. There are also many differences in the fauna and flora of the two maars: On the one hand, a crystal-clear deep lake surrounded by old beech forest, on the other hand, a high moor with its rare mosses, surrounded by coppice and the sloes so typical of the Eifel. The hike of approx. 4-5 km leads past both maars and leaves plenty of time to address questions about the volcanic origin or the later change = silting up in passing.
