Vortrag "Die Kraft des Sozialen" in der Radwegekirche St. Paul

Autobahn- & Radwegekirche St. Paul

11/22/25
6:00 PM

2nd Saturday Evening Talk on November 22, 2025, 6:00 PM   -  "The Power of the Social. Does Community Spirit Shape Our Society?" with Prof. Dr. Aleida Assmann Presented by the Support Association of the St. Paul Highway and Cycle Path Church. Admission is free.

The lecture has two goals. On the one hand, it addresses the fact that the resource of a common good has largely been overlooked in Western culture. The guiding principle has been the belief: "The liberated self is the engine of modernity." The liberation of the self was an important Western achievement, but the disadvantages of this one-sided perspective are becoming increasingly evident. On the other hand, the rediscovery of the common good allows for perspectives on other traditions of Western culture that take the human being not as an isolated individual fighter, but seriously as a fellow human being and relational being within his social embedding, with human rights and responsibilities.
Aleida Assmann, who studied English and Egyptology, was a professor at the University of Konstanz. She received many awards, including the Peace Prize
of the German Book Trade in 2018 (together with her husband Jan Assmann, † 2024).
