A Look Behind the Scenes: An Exclusive Hike to Celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the Urft Dam
August 23 is fully booked!!
To mark the 125th anniversary of the Urft Dam, the Eifel-Rur Water Authority and the Eifel National Park Administration are offering a special, free excursion:
As part of a hike through the Kermeter—the “ecological heart” of the Eifel National Park—participants will have the opportunity to gain exclusive insights into the interior of the dam halfway through the hike.
Staff from the Water Authority will guide participants through the impressive structure: the descent takes them down over 360 steps to the inspection galleries inside the dam. Because the temperature there remains a constant 8 to 10 degrees, appropriate clothing is recommended—regardless of the likely summery temperatures outside! Afterward, you’ll have the opportunity to stop for refreshments at the dam at your own expense before heading back to the Wilder Kermeter.
Due to its length and the steep inclines, the hike is challenging and not suitable for children under 6–7 years of age. The interior of the dam is also not accessible to strollers. The number of participants is limited;
